ignition coil

Kentron specializes in the design, manufacture, test and vacuum encapsulation of ignition systems and ignition coils.

There are two basic types of ignition systems: Capacitive discharge and Inductive ignitions. Each type fulfills particular engine requirements.
Capacitive Discharge Ignition Systems
Capacitive discharge ignition systems store energy in a capacitor. When discharged, the energy is transferred to the primary of the high voltage coil (transformer) which steps up the capacitor voltage to kilovolt levels. Capacitor discharge systems have fast rise times, low arc duration and are less susceptible to fouling of the spark gap (spark plug).

Inductive Ignition Systems
Inductive ignition systems store energy in the primary current of the ignition coil. When the ignition is triggered, the primary current collapses causing a high voltage to be produced in the secondary. Inductive ignition systems are used in applications requiring long arc duration and low fuel/air ratios.
Kentron has thirty years experience in the design, manufacturing, test and vacuum encapsulation of ignition systems and ignition coils. Specifically, we:
  • Define specifications for the ignition system and ignition coil
  • Review existing designs for reliability and cost reductions
  • Design ignition system and ignition coil
  • Select epoxy for the high voltage coil
  • Reduce in-house and field failures
  • Select suppliers for the ignition system and coils
  • Represent your company in working with the supplier to assure a reliable and consistent product
  • Work with your suppliers for the best price, quality and delivery
  • Review manufacturing and assembly processes, especially the vacuum encapsulation process, to eliminate potential field failures
  • Educate personnel in the operation and characteristics of ignition systems
  • Train employees in testing and handling of ignition systems and high voltage coils
Kentron has assisted companies in the Aerospace, Aircraft, Automotive, Chainsaw, Industrial, Lawn & Garden, Marine and Military markets
